- SUPERMAC ANNOUNCES LOW-COST 24-BIT
- COLOR GRAPHICS ADAPTER FOR MACINTOSH II COMPUTERS
-
- COLORCARD/24 UPGRADES ANY MACINTOSH II TO TRUE COLOR
-
- Sunnyvale, Calif. — October 3, 1989 — SuperMac™ Technology today announced
- ColorCard/24™, a 24-bit color display card that slashes the cost of upgrading
- any Macintosh® II to a true color display. With its ability to display over
- 16.7 million screen colors at once, the ColorCard/24 brings photographic
- quality resolution to the Mac II family at a price people can afford. The
- ColorCard/24 will have a special introductory retail price of $899 on orders
- placed through October 31; and the suggested retail price will be $999 after
- November 1. It will ship in mid-November. The new ColorCard/24 is only the
- first in a series of new graphics subsystem products due out from SuperMac
- during the next few months.
-
- The ColorCard/24 is an especially appropriate enhancement for the new Macint
- IIci. The IIci's faster processing speed will greatly reduce screen redrawing
- delays experienced by true color users in the past, and its built-in 8-bit
- color capability makes a true color upgrade the next logical step.
-
- "With its 25 MHz processor and 8-bit color built into the logic board,
- the new Mac IIci is a platform that we think will really expand the use of true
- color on the Macintosh," said Steven Edelman, founder and Chief Scientist of
- SuperMac. "The ColorCard/24 supports the Apple® 13" RGB monitor on any Mac II
- model, so it's an easy way to upgrade to the ultimate color Macintosh."
-
- SuperMac used advanced VLSI circuitry to lower the cost of the ColorCard/24
- without cutting such key features as hardware pan and zoom and Virtual Desktop™
- that have made the company's Spectrum display cards a popular choice among
- graphics professionals. The ColorCard/24 is fully compatible with 32-bit
- QuickDraw™, and it works in 1, 2, 4, 8, and 24-bit display modes and it also
- supports NTSC output.
-
- "The ColorCard/24 shows SuperMac's commitment to remaining at the leading ed
- of value and performance in Macintosh graphics subsystems," said Michael
- McConnell, President of SuperMac. "We will continue to be very aggressive in
- setting new standards of value and performance in the Mac graphics market in
- the future."
-
- SuperMac Technology develops, manufactures and markets color, gray scale and
- monochrome graphics subsystems which today include displays, graphics cards,
- software, and applications support products. These graphics subsystems extend
- the capability of personal computers into new vertical markets and their
- application in the traditional office automation and business market.
